Bank conversion
How to convert a bank statement PDF to Excel
Excel is useful for reconciliation, review and reporting, but a PDF statement must be structured carefully before it becomes a reliable spreadsheet.
Keep these columns separate
- Transaction date and value date
- Full narration or description
- Debit and credit amounts
- Running balance
- Reference or cheque number when available
Review the output before reconciliation
Check that dates have not been swapped, debit values have not become credits, long narrations have not been cut and opening balances have not been treated as transactions. Search the output for blank amounts and duplicate dates.
Excel, CSV or Tally XML?
Use Excel for manual review and formulas, CSV for lightweight integrations, and Tally XML when the final destination is TallyPrime. The same reviewed transaction data can support each output.
