What to do with a password-protected bank PDF

Some bank statements are encrypted and cannot be read until the correct password is entered. This is different from a normal PDF that simply opens without a password.

Before uploading

Confirm that the file is the original statement PDF.
Keep the correct password available.
Do not share the password in a public message or document.

During conversion

A good converter checks the PDF first and asks for a password only when encryption is detected. After unlocking, review the extracted data before downloading XML, Excel or CSV.

If the password fails

Check whether the bank supplied a separate PDF password, whether spaces or letter case matter, and whether the file was downloaded completely. If it still fails, download a fresh copy from the bank portal.
